Synopsis

MEETING JIM tells the fascinating life story of Jim Haynes, an extraordinary man who took up the spirit of the 60s with heart and soul and carried it through his life. He founded the first Paperback Bookshop in Great Britain, co-produced the Literary Conference in 1962 and the Drama Conference in Edinburgh in 1963, which inspired today's Edinburgh International Book Festival. Jim Haynes is co-founder of the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh, the alternative newspaper International Times, the underground pop club U.F.O. and the London Arts Lab. He taught media studies and sexual politics at the University of Paris VIII for three decades, co-founded the magazine for sexual freedom SUCK and directed the Wet Dream Film Festival in Amsterdam.
In his Parisian studio he created the tradition of "Sunday Dinners". For almost 40 years he has been inviting the world to dinner every Sunday evening. His "Sunday Dinners", which were attended by over 150,000 people, are legendary and the traces of his life from the USA to Edinburgh, London and Paris left an impressive social network (according to the Guardian, he is also called the godfather of the social network).
