"Having separated myself from my illusory self, I desperately tried to find a path and a meaning to life." This sentence perfectly sums up Alexandro Jodorowsky's biographical project: to recreate the incredible adventure and quest that his life was.
This film is an exercise in imaginary autobiography. Born in Chile in 1929, in the small town of Tocopilla, where the film was shot, Alejandro Jodorowsky endured a very harsh and violent education within a rootless family. Although the events and characters are real, fiction overtakes reality in a poetic world where the filmmaker reinvents his family and, most particularly, the path his father's life took up to redemption, the reconciliation of a man with his childhood.
