Kurzinhalt

Nanni Moretti is one of Italy's most original directors. He is also outspokenly left-wing, and since the 1970s he has made use of his reputation and his well-known face to fight for the values he believes in. In 'Say Something Left Wing', Moretti talks about his life at the intersection between being a film director and being a political activist, and the film paints a picture of a man, who wittily and affectionately talks about the Italian left wing, of which he is a part, but which he also thinks of as lacking a sense of humour and as incapable of being self-critical in public. With his charismatic personality and his indignation towards the situation in Italian politics, Moretti has become a role model and leader figure for an entire opposition movement. With Moretti as its front man, 'Movements of Spring' manages to get thousands of Italians to march the streets in protest against Berlusconi. But it can also seem as if Moretti has become a political symbol without really wanting to, and at a certain point his political activity and his participation at countless demonstrations take up all his time. He is therefore forced to make a choice: should he be a political role model, or should he return to his life's vocation, namely to express himself through moving images?
