Vietnam. 1972. US Army Special Forces Major Cliff Marquette (David Morse) leads a squad to investigate unusual reports and secure a remote jungle temple locals believe has mystical powers. Marines guarding the temple have withheld provisions for days from a Viet
Cong prisoner, who shows no signs of suffering. In act he lies bound to a stone slab in the temple with an inexplicable smile on his face.
Marquette confronts the Marine in-charge, Garris (John C. McGinley), and threatens to charge him with torturing a prisoner of war. Their argument is interrupted
when mortar shells rock the temple and blasts of gunfi re erupt outside. An exceptionally heroic, but ultimately losing battle lands Marquette in the hands of a merciless Viet Cong torturer.
Marquette gains consciousness bound to the very temple slab the smiling prisoner escaped. At the height of agony, Marquette’s world is suddenly turned upside down. In the blink of an eye, he’s home, living an idyllic life, with a loving wife and children he’s never seen before. As Marquette struggles to take in what—and how—this is happening to him, he discovers the cruel pain of war isn’t over after all. As the clock strikes midnight every night, Marquette is back in Vietnam, and his torture resumes a few minutes each time. Trapped in unending cycle of pain, he must fi nd a way to endure…unless, with the clock counting
down, Marquette can cheat fate. Escaping will take his wits. And it will require a gun.
