Gorky Resort focuses on a suspenceful duel between two cultured men with radically opposite mindsets: a cynical, sophisticated commandant of a Soviet POW camp and a young Polish lieutenant who is also a world-renowned pianist. Despite the commandants aggresive efforts to brainwash him, the lieutenant remains faithful to his patriotic principles and refuses to succumb to his agitation. Following his example, the rest of the Polish prisoners also bravely resist to the relentless attempts by Russians to crush their community and break their collective solidarity. Furious by the lack of resuts Stalin decides to grt rid of the problem and authorises secret executions. As transports from the camp begin the ecstatic officers are fooled into believing they are going home at last, until they are unexpectedly taken off the train. One by one they are shot in the back of their heads with their hands tied behind their backs and dumped inside the mass grave at the nearby Katyn Forest.
