The film spans forty years of Italian and Sicilian History, from 1934 to the death of Aldo Moro, through the story of Francesco-an honest, life-loving man of rights and duties-who recounts his life by writing long letters to his father, who left for America when he was a child. From his youth during the war, to running for mayor of his own town, Francesco's life is a cross-section of the History of Italy and Sicily.
