Inspired by the fate of Hitler assassin Georg Elser, "Unter freiem Himmel" sketches the fiction of a solitary young woman becoming an assassin against an inhuman military dictatorship in contemporary Germany.
The short film raised uncomfortable questions: What , if in the here and now a dictatorial tyranny similar to the Germany of the 1930s would prevail - would I take the path of rebellion? What - if such an assassination would "succeed"?"
What is unusual about "Unter freiem Himmel" is not only that it tackles a fiction with historical echoes on a no-budget premise, but the motion-picture design in particular sets a clear accent in the field of video shorts: visual effects that do not need to fear comparison with major productions, applied to an independent handheld camera and deepened by an intensifying color dramaturgy.
