    Brief synopsis

It is estimated that around 250,000 people in Germany are pedophiles. The World Health Organization classifies pedophilia as a disorder of sexual preference, while other voices speak of a sexual inclination. However, pedophiles are not child abusers per se - this is the conclusion of psychologist Dr. Janina Neutze from the Department of Forensic Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the University of Regensburg. She heads the MIKADO study (Abuse of Children: Aetiology, Dark Field, Victims) and knows that although in most people's perception the terms pedophilia and child abuse are directly linked, in fact they are two different phenomena.Whether disorder or inclination, none of the three victims in this Rabiat reportage by Manuel Möglich consciously decided to live this way. In addition to Georg, who reveals himself as a pedophile in this film, the audience gets to know Chris, who is in his early 30s, and 17-year-old Max. Chris is critical of therapy offers, saying he knows how to behave as society demands: "I'm not an asshole!" Max, for whom the Charité youth program "You Dream of Them" is an essential help in sorting out everyday life, would probably have had a hard time getting clarity about his sexuality and life reality without therapists. In addition to relatives such as Georg's sister or Max's father, a doctor from the Charité project "Kein Täter werden" (Don't Become a Perpetrator) has his say in the report - Rabiat reporter Manuel Möglich has a diagnosis made there himself. "Unter Pädophilen" is a depressing report about an emotionally charged subject, which clearly offers more nuances than white and black and is complex in its confrontation. The final Rabiat film of the first season makes it clear how pedophiles think and feel and asks the viewer the question: How should society deal with pedophiles?
