The Silesia Film Institute, operating in various forms since 1946, is a cultural institution managed by the Local Government of Śląskie Voivodeship. It carries out activities in the field of cinematography, protection of film art resources, as well as promotion and dissemination of filmmaking and film culture, primarily related to the region. Silesia Film manages the Silesian Film Archive, the only regional film archive in Poland, as well as five art-house cinemas in Katowice, Racibórz and Żywiec.
Silesia Film Commission, one of the pioneering film commissions on the Polish audiovisual market, has operated as part of the Silesia Film Institute since 2011. Its aim is to promote the region as a place that is friendly and attractive to filmmakers. Silesia Film Commission makes sure that the work of filmmakers implementing their projects in the region runs smoothly and without interference. It provides access to the location and production resources of the entire Śląskie Voivodeship. It provides all necessary information and conducts procedures which enable films to be made in selected locations.
Silesia Film Commission manages the Silesian Film Fund – one of the first regional film funds in Poland operating since 2008. Once a year, projects related to Śląskie Voivodeship in terms of their theme or filming location may apply for co-financing from the funds of the Silesian Film Fund.
