Brief synopsis
Over hundreds of years a catalog of sins has been developed that sums up our weaknesses, vices and passions into seven: pride, greed, lust, anger, gluttony, envy and indolence.
The sins of our time
All of these are human needs that harm ourselves and the community. It is all the more important to find out where they are nowadays. As a doctor, Eckart von Hirschhausen knows about the physical consequences of greed, gluttony and indolence - high blood pressure, diabetes and cirrhosis of the liver are just some of the consequences.
Yet our sins have far more profound implications, and they seem hidden in new definitions and marketing. "Avarice is cool", "Influencer", "All you can eat", "Sex sells", "Wutbürger", "Couch Potato" - are the sins of our time behind these terms and slogans?
There is hope
Eckart von Hirschhausen illuminates the psychological, moral and social components of our sins, but also of our virtues. Can we control our cravings and even reprogram them? Eckart von Hirschhausen is looking for answers on the "Fridays for Future" demo, in the pedestrian zone and at the Zündpfuhl Bahnhof Zoo and finds not only human abysses but also aspects that give hope.
He speaks to psychologists, behaviorists and theologians. Bishop Kirsten Fehrs, astrophysicist Harald Lesch and porn mogul Fabian Thylmann give their assessment of our desires. Do we still fear hell or do we create it ourselves? What influence do the evil seven still have on our lives, do we have to expand or overtake them? And are there ways out of the sin trap?
