    Brief synopsis

Their compositional ideas as well as their personalities are diametrically opposed. The film tells the exciting story of the rivalry between two composers who decisively shaped 20th century music and views on music. They are the antipodes of 20th century New Music - Arnold Schoenberg and Igor Stravinsky. Their compositional ideas as well as their personalities are diametrically opposed. And they unexpectedly become figureheads of a bitter dispute between two camps, which soon becomes less about music than about ideology.

The documentary tells the exciting story of the rivalry between two composers who decisively shaped the music of the 20th century and views on music. The respect with which Schoenberg and Stravinsky still met in the 1910s soon gave way to a bitter feud over what was the true way to compose. Both believed they had found the answer - Schoenberg with the brooding twelve-tone technique he had developed, which met with little success with the public, Stravinsky with a more eclectic approach to composition that cleverly combined the best of music history and was marketed highly successfully under the label of neoclassicism.

How the dissent of two self-confident composers then developed into a decades-long, ideologically charged dispute between two opposing camps of Schoenberg and Stravinsky devotees is one of the most fascinating chapters in music history.
