Brief synopsis

The Chair of Production Metrology and Quality Management of the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) at RWTH Aachen University focuses its research on dynamic, urban value networks, among other things. The goal here is to create a collaborative platform that enables the networking of production resources and customer orders.

To illustrate the approaches, a simulation of production sites was created using 3D printers, which assigns orders to locations via a network and can initiate production.

In the search for suitable hardware, contacts established from earlier collaborations between the WZL and the Conrad Technologie Centrum were used.

In addition to the Renkforce RF500 3D printer we recommended, Conrad Electronic's Technology Center also recommended using the Renkforce 3D Printbox "Astroprint". This enables the printers to be controlled via a programming interface and the associated option of sending print jobs over the network via the existing platform using a server-client architecture.

As can be seen in the video, the goals were successfully achieved. A network has been created in which free production resources from various locations can be used by individual customers.
