When retirement is imminent and a new phase of life begins, suddenly everything is open again. everything is open again. You have a choice: carry on as before, stay where you have always been and continue the life you are familiar with? Or dare to start something new, somewhere completely different - and let old, almost forgotten dreams come to life?
In 2020, around a quarter of a million Germans emigrated abroad. Many out of a thirst for adventure, some because they are threatened by poverty in old age, others in order to become socially social commitment. These are older people who, in the last third of their lives, are faced with the decision of whether to leave their home in Germany forever and emigrate - and once again put all their eggs in one basket. Will they realize ideas and wishes they postponed years or decades ago? Or will the need for security win out in the end?
In a long-term observation we accompany people in their search for a new beginning. We experience their daring and their doubts, the farewell from their old home and the new beginning in a foreign country. We share in their successes and setbacks and learn whether the new reality can withstand their great dream - or becomes a bitter disappointment.
