In the northern part of Denmark there live 575 Thai-women married to Danish men. There was almost none 15 years ago. But Sommai was there – a former sex-worker from Pattaya.
With Sommai as the front woman “From Thailand to Thy” depicts a network of industrious and strong Thai-woman. They have to find a man for the niece Kae, who is in Denmark on three-month tourist-visa. With personal ads and female-intuition they are looking for the right man for Kae. The film starts with her arrival to Denmark and her meeting with a Danish man.
Through this rather different love story, one gets an intimate insight in the marriages between Danish men and their Thai-wives in the Northern part of Denmark. An insight that tells the story of Globalization, poverty, prostitution and our common needs for security, love and “somebody to care about”.
The film is an intrusive portrait that with a unique access reveals the life of a group of well-integrated Thai-women, whom all try to outlive the idea of western happiness and thereby the achievement of respect and social status back in Thailand.
