Profile Of Fear (DVD) (AT)

Andy is a student in criminal school, when he is given a challenging exercise: He is supposed to develop the profile of a killer in a long solved case, with the original yet anonymized file at hand. Soon he is fully drawn into the case, having visions of the site of crime – the shabby Coventry Hotel, which is now desolated and scheduled for demolition.

Andy’s theories about the crime and his profile about the apparent offender are turned down as being wrong and the instructor humiliates and ridicules Andy in front of his class as being incompetent. Shattered, Andy embarks to do his own investigations – just to find disturbing facts that a major conspiracy is going on. Andy is frightened to death.

Meanwhile we learn that Andy’s private life is also far from being in harmony. His girl-friend is frequently consulting a counselor to talk about her troubled relationship to Andy. His parents turn out to be very disappointed by Andy’s slow career, and they show that to him with a considerable amount of disrespect.

For Andy, events become more and more irritating and ominous. Inside the old and now desolated Coventry Hotel, he encounters phenomena that might be physical threats or mere hallucinations.

Andy’s confusion and fear leads to a disturbing climax, when Andy finally gets access to the apartment where the actual crime had been committed – and discovers the horrible truth about the case.
