China has more than 4,000 sports schools training up potential medal winners for the Beijing Games. China has targeted a total of 50 gold medals at the 2008 games, 30 more than its target for the Athens Games.
After achieving ”only” one gold medal in gymnastics in 2004, and being Beijing the host of the Olympic games 2008, the PRC has strengthen the training of its athletes.
These athletes have started since an early age because either they did not show any academic skills or because their parents wanted to. The training although regulated is still based on the concepts of master and disciples, where a role model to emulate is the main goal.Those who fail to reach a high level are returned to ordinary schools.
In the capital of gymnastics of China there is a School where Harmony, Grace and Strength are given to small kids in order to achieve “balance” in their movements, the key for a ten in Gymnastics, the key to the Gold medal.
