Kurzinhalt

On June 6, 1944, the Western Allies began their invasion of German-occupied France. Three million American, English, Canadian and French young men had spent months preparing themselves in British camps for the invasion. On the evening of June 5, 1944, over 6,000 ships and 12,000 airplanes crossed the English Channel, headed for the Normandy coast. It was the day that marked the beginning of the end for the Third Reich.

One of the landing points earmarked for attack by American forces was codenamed Omaha Beach. 34,000 U.S. troops landed on the beach, which was guarded by only 308 German soldiers. Though completely outnumbered, the Germans put up a fierce fight. Within minutes, the beach became a bloody scene of death and despair. Thousands of Allied soldiers lost their lives in the first hours of the battle. This deadly confrontation gave the beach its new name: Bloody Omaha. After 70 years, former German soldiers break their silence and for the first time speak about their experiences in front of a camera.
