    Kurzinhalt

In a beautiful country site Warre strolls around to watch birds. Suddenly a little creature falls from the air. It looks like a baby girl but has wings where other girls have arms. Warre takes the creature home and shows it to his wife Tine, who is very much longing for a baby. Tine decides to keep the creature and calls it Birdie.

Tine does her very best to raise Birdie as a normal little girl. But Birdie is not a normal little girl and on a certain day she flies away to the South. Tine is inconsolable and together with Warre she goes looking for Birdie.

Birdie’s flight to the South is not without danger. She tries to join flocks of various other birds, but only to discover that they don’t accept her as one of their kind. Meanwhile, on their voyage Tine and Warre keep meeting other people who join them in their search for Birdie. Together they follow Birdie’s trail over the hills and to the sea.

In the end Warre thinks they’d better go back home; it’s just against nature to keep a bird. But then they find out Birdie has got caught in a storm, has fallen into the sea and threatens to drown. Warre and Tine bravely face the waves and save Birdie.
Tine is very happy to have her little girl back. But she soon notices that Birdie still hasn’t lost her longing to fly away. Tine has to admit that Warre is right: you can’t keep Birdies, except in your dear memories. Out in the open countryside on the top of a hill Tine spreads her arms and gives Birdie her freedom. Together with the other birdies Birdie flies to the South.
