It is the 1970s and a biblical drought is destroying the beautiful Tuscan countryside. In its midst 9-year old Michele is warned of an end-of-the-world prophecy: locusts will crawl out of the ground. It is Panfilo, Michele's imaginary friend, who foresees it. While Michele's grandfather, Tiziano, indulges Michele's imagination, his father, Giovanni, strongly opposes him only to find himself increasingly immersed in his son's fears and solitude.
