The 2011 European Destinations of Excellence theme is “Tourism and Regeneration of Physical Sites”. All twenty-one winning destinations from EU Member States and Candidate Countries have successfully regenerated physical sites of local heritage such as: old industrial sites, transport infrastructure, agricultural land or military. These once discussed sites have now been converted into remarkable tourist attractions.
