The film KREATOR - HATE & HOPE tells, for the first time, the forty-year story of the acclaimed metal band, from their founding as a school band in 1982 in Germany’s Ruhr region to the major international stages of their current world tour. Then as now, they take a stand against hate and the dark sides of our society. Piercing sounds, virtuosic guitar riffs, and energetic drumbeats channel the turmoil of our civilization with immense willpower and creative force. Between quotes from Hannah Arendt and headless corpses emerges a well-crafted chaos-poetry full of terrifying symbols. A musical Molotov cocktail against evil, with a cathartic effect. For her new documentary film, director Cordula Kablitz-Post (Weil du nur einmal lebst) spent a year following the legendary thrash metal band from the ‘Pott’ (a nickname for the Ruhr area) on tour: Wacken Open Air, Tokyo, Osaka, Bangalore, Los Angeles, and finally to the ‘Klash of the Ruhrpott’ in Gelsenkirchen, where Germany’s metal greats gather. With private archival footage and exciting interviews (Scott Ian / Anthrax, Chuck Billy / Testament, Bela B. / Die Ärzte, guitarist Phil Demmel / formerly Machine Head, Lars Eidinger, Maik Weichert / Heaven Shall Burn, Nergal / Behemoth, Andy Sneap), they embark on a very honest and humorous journey into the wild, pounding heart of German music history.
