Michaela von Unger

Michaela von Unger began her film career in 1986 as a script supervisor. In 1993 she wrote her first teleplay, a German remake of the BBC drama series “Casualty”, produced by Endemol. Since then she has written a number of scripts – most recently, five episodes of the crime series “Ein Fall für Zwei” for the Odeon Film AG (2010-2013). In 1995 she joined Opal Filmproduktions GmbH, where she developed, with head producer Michael von Gahlen and screenwriter Harald Vock, the series Küstenwache for the ZDF, becoming one of the youngest female producers of long running TV shows. The pilot-episode received unexpectedly high ratings, and ran successfully for over 15 years. In 1997, she took over as a head producer from Mr. von Galen, producing 10 of the total 17 seasons and maintaining consistently high ratings through her tenure. In 1999, she developed the TV series “Zwei Engel auf Streife” together with the producer Dany Geys for RTL. In 2003 she produced the feature film “Mitfahrer – Jede Begegnung ist eine Chance”, a road movie. The film was selected to be the opening film of the German Berlinale section in 2004, toured internationally at festivals, won the Internationale Filmfest Aubagne jury award and the Studio Hamburg "Best directing" award. Following this success she founded a film distribution company to release “Mitfahrer - Jede Begegnung ist eine Chance” in November 2005 in cinema. In 2006 she joined Askania-Media Filmproduktion, a subsidiray of Bavaria-Film GmbH, where she focued on TV development. Since then she has worked as a consultant for the film business, and has relaunched long-running television shows such as “Ein Fall für Zwei” (2008-2010) and “In aller Freundschaft” (2013).
In 2014 she founded the consultancy service “shootintrouble”, which provides support at any stage of the film business.
Michaela von Unger teaches in the fields of fiction producer and script writing at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin, Institut für Schauspiel -, Film-, und Fernsehberufe Berlin and is a member of the Deutsche Filmakademie e.V. , media.net berlinbrandenburg e.V. and “Woman in film and television”.
