1984. Nicolai, a young Soviet musician, arrives in Afghanistan like thousands of other Soviet draftees to fight a war that his not his own. In a constant state of fear, he finds himself plunged into a world of violence and death.
One day, while carrying out a mission, he is captured by Commandant Massud’s mujahideen, who take him deep into the mountains where Afghan resistance fighters are holed up. Vergos, who has entered Afghanistan illegally, is among them. While some would like to kill him, others feel for compassion for Nikolai. Little by little, bonds of friendship and affection develop between the Russian soldier, French journalist and mujahideen.
