About Gerald Schank

Gerald Schank was born in Cologne, December 7th, 1964.
Until 1984 he studied for the degree in Social Education and Pedagogy. During the term for alternative civilian service, he started his training in the fields of movie and video production, cinematography and editing at the Filmhaus Cologne.
In 1986, Gerald Schank started an additional four years apprenticeship and on the job training with the company Imos Filmproduktion GmbH as assistant camera and sound technician.
1992 saw his first works as freelanced cinematographer in his documentary movie on Brazilian street kids, a commissioned production for the WDR (West German Broadcasting Corporation). After several years of gaining experience, especially in South America (Brazil), he extended his activities also to filming for advertising agencies. Since 1995, a multitude of image movies, videos and commercials were realized.
1998 adds well known TV productions such as "Alarm für Cobra 11", where he functioned first as 2nd unit Operator, later also as 2nd unit DoP, thus collecting experience in scenic cinematography. In 1999 he founded the production company Fresh Frames Film & TV Produktion GmbH together with the producer Kerstin Kalenberg. This company offers full service for cinematography and TV productions.
Gerald Schank signs responsible for the cinematographic work of the award receiving short movie "Snipers Alley" in 2002. With producer and director Rudolf Schweiger he did his long film debut "Mörderischer Frieden" (Lethal Peace) in 2006.
This anti-war drama was filmed in Sarajevo and surroundings and started at the cinemas in November 2007. Since 2016 Gerald Schank also acts as commissioned producer for tv broadcasting companies and advertising agencies.
