  • Musiktheater mit viel Gesang
„On Air“ heißt die neue Produktion der Göttinger Theatermacher „Boat People Projekt“.

Majid Merizadi, Luig

  • Fed Uni Actor brings Japan to the Theatre
FORMER Ballarat actor Grace Pyone has scored a role in an avant-garde Melbourne production.

Pyone was born in Burma and raised in Burma, Singapore and Malaysia before being accepted into Federation University’s performing arts course in 2013.

Since then, she has appeared in a number of productions including Ant + Cleo, Ebbingtide, Oh What a Lovely War and Machina.

She is soon to perform in the role of Takahashi in Gaijin, a tale of sacrifice, cultural understanding and martial arts set in Japan.

The play, written and directed by Martin Rice, aims to provide an insight into different forms of Japanese theatre and includes a choreographed sword fighting scene.

Gaijin, which is Japanese for foreigner, looks into the centuries of heritage in Japanese theatre while also referencing modern issues of immigration.

Pyone said Japanese arts and culture were never far away in her upbringing and hopes to bring the art of theatre performance back to her homeland one day.

Gaijin will be performed in a limited season at the Brunswick Mechanics’ Institute from July 6 to 16.

Tickets are $25-$30. For more information and tickets, visit www.metanoiatheatre.com

  • FedUni Arts Academy's graduating acting students
The showbiz stars of the future – FedUni Arts Academy’s music theatre and acting course’s graduating third-year class – will delve in to political intrigue for their season of graduating theatre works.

The season, titled Serious Courage, will showcase political performance with Caryl Churchill’s Serious Money, Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage and her Children and Stephen Sondheim’s The Demon Barber of Fleet Street on the triple bill.

“Our graduating students are the future stars of Australian theatre,” said Arts Academy director Bryce Ives.

“With the strength and poignancy of these three shows in conjunction with the stellar talent of the creative team, the experience of the whole program is a unique opportunity for Ballarat theatre audiences.”

The season will take place at the university’s Helen Macpherson Smith Theatre in the Camp Street campus with performances from September 22 to 30, and October 5-14.
