Zurich, in 1519. The widow Anna Reinhart is torn between her fear of the Church and her worries about her children’s future when the priest Zwingli starts working at the Grossmünster, where his sermons against the ecclesiastical catholic traditions spark heated debates. Zwingli’s revolutionary ideas scare Anna. But when she witnesses Zwingli’s practical charity, she falls under the priest’s spell. Zwingli is fighting for a change of the Church: he translates the Bible into German and encourages the population’s literacy. But his success soon proves to be dangerous.
