In the middle of the Wendland - one of the most structurally underdeveloped regions in Germany - local people have founded a village for a hundred old persons, a hundred refugees and a hundred young people. As if under a magnifying glass, topics are intensively discussed and solutions are sought for problems that concern us all: the integration of refugees, an ageing society, social isolation and the difficulties faced by the handicapped, old people or single parents as well as a lack of prospectives for young people living in provincial areas.
It is a mammoth project, a bureaucratic obstacle course, an idealised utopia - supported and fantasized by very special protagonists. The village may become a prototype for European life in the countryside, it could, however, end up as an ecological settlement for senior citizens. Anything is possible.
