Céline, a fifteen-year-old teenager, has been relying on her own resourcefulness since she ran away from her legal guardians.
She finds refuge in an outbuilding of a bourgeois house belonging to a judge and his wife, Monsieur and Madame Van Eyck. One evening, she is discovered there and begs the couple to take her in.
Day after day, Céline strives to please her new hosts, until a series of revelations about the teenager lead the couple to the brink of revolution.
