Brief synopsis
The film begins with undercover footage from the plane heading to Siberia in which Navalny was supposed to have been murdered with the nerve agent Novichok. And it’s only thanks to an emergency landing and transfer to the Charité Hospital in Berlin, pushed through by his wife Julia against the will of the Russian Government, that he was able to be saved.
With all the pace of a political thriller, Daniel Roher documents and accompanies Navalny during some both shocking and personal moments – from being poisoned on the airplane and his stopover in Germany up to his return to Moscow, where he is arrested at the airport upon landing on behalf of the Russian Government. Since then, Alexei Navalny has been imprisoned not far from Moscow at the notoriously harsh Pokrov correctional colony.
On March 22nd, 2022, in the middle of Russia’s war of aggression on Ukraine, Navalny’s sentence was extended with another nine years’ imprisonment, because of supposed fraud. Navalny’s lawyers have filed an appeal and are demanding his acquittal.
