Education | Maryna Vroda was born in Kyiv, Ukraine. In 2007, she graduated from the Cinematography and TV faculty at the Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Kary University of Theater, Cinematography and Television with a specialization in feature film directing. During her studies in Kyiv she attended the workshops of Mikhail Illenko and Valery Sivak. After graduating, she worked with Sergei Loznitsa. In 2008, her short student films were entered for international film festivals both in Eastern and Western Europe and her film CROSS-COUNTRY was nominated for the Golden Starfish Award at the Hamptons International Film Festival in 2011 and won the Palme d'Or for Best Short Film in the same year at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2010 Maryna was a participant at the Berlinale Talent Campus and used the Residence Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris in 2013 to write the script for the film STEPNE. In 2016 she studied for a Master at the Konrad Wolf Film University of Babelsberg.
