    About Maryna Vroda

Maryna Vroda was born in Kiev and graduated from the Kiev National
University of Theatre, Cinematography and Television in 2007. After her
studies she worked with Sergei Loznitsa on his film "My Joy" (2010). Her short films have been shown at many festivals. In 2011 she won the Palme D'Or for best short film in Cannes with "Cross-Country". The film was also shown in the international competition of Kurzfilmtage Winterthur.
Maryna is currently working on her first feature film "Stepne''.
In her films, Maryna analyzes different facets of departure and farewell and processes them cinematically. Her stories are also strongly connected with her own family and her home country. She skilfully manages to poetically fuse the above-mentioned themes, her own social observations as well as political commentaries on her homeland into her very own cinematic signature.
Maryna herself said in an interview: "The cinema can be a tool for us. With it we can change the people and the image of Ukraine in the world."
