About Ludwig Blochberger

Ludwig Blochberger was born in East-Berlin in 1982. His father Lutz Blochberger (actor & director) and his mother (puppeteer) both studied at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts at the time. In 1984 his family moved to Dresden. At the age of 8 Ludwig attended the school of the Dresdner Kreuzchor. In 1992 they moved to Vienna and became a member of the famous Vienna Boys’ Choir, which led him to places all over the world. Shortly after he went on to play the role of Prince Edward III in the staging of ‘EDWARD II‘ by Claus Peymann at the Wiener Burgtheater.

In 1999 Ludwig Blochberger moved back to his hometown Berlin. In the following year he played besides Armin Mueller-Stahl in ‘THE MANNS – NOVEL OF A CENTURY‘. In the same year he left school and began to study at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts, which he finished in 2004. Since then he has been acting in many different TV movie and cinema productions (SUMMER STORM, THE LIVES OF OTHERS, THE LAST TRAIN). He has been nominated for the UNDINE AWARD as best supporting actor and best actor in a leading role. On stage he worked with renowned directors like Hans Neuenfels (THE MAGIC FLUTE, BAAL), Maria Happel and Hermann Beil. In 2007 he played the leading role in the world premiere of ‘HEIL HITLER!‘ by playwright Rolf Hochhuth, which was directed by his father Lutz Blochberger.

Then in 2013, Ludwig played the German ex-Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, in the TV documentary drama HELMUT SCHMIDT – LEBENSFRAGEN (directed by: Ben von Grafenstein). This TV movie was broadcasted on the occasion of the 95th birthday of Helmut Schmidt. In the same year he took over the continuous role of Inspector Riwal, in the TV series COMMISSAIRE DUPIN, which is based on the successful novels of the author Jean-Luc Bannalec and based in Brittany (France). Since fall 2015, Ludwig plays in the TV crime series THE OLD FOX, the commissioner ‘Tom Kupfer’, alongside of Jan-Gregor Kremp as chief inspector ‘Richard Voss’.
