Les Mères intérieures

Where are we in maternity in 2019? This question, Caroline Gillet decided to ask eight women from Loches, a small town in Indre-et-Loire. Meetings sometimes in the form of confidences for these mothers young and old, in couples or separated, straight or gay. The film draws portraits of Jeanne, a farmer who raises only her daughter Margot, Claire and Tiphaine couple of midwives who had their daughter Mathilde with an anonymous Assisted Reproduction donor or Claire, illustrator, who is thinking about the maternal instinct, wonders if it is not his companion who is the most 'mothering' of the couple of parents they form for the little Omer. There is also the word of their elders, Simone, 90, who broke ties with her eldest son. The testimonies of these women sometimes of different generations answer each other, echo each other, sometimes contradict each other.

Caroline Gillet leads here an impressionist and subjective inquiry, nourished by her own questions - she has no children, lives with a woman and also asks herself the question of becoming a mother. In the background is an evolution of motherhood whose codes and benchmarks are subject to a change and not least, in its practice and in the male / female relationships they induce.

Caroline Gillet is a radio journalist, she hosts and produces weekly Sunday evening Foule Continentale which deals with different European youths.
