    Brief synopsis

"Buon Gusto is my stage". When Rinaldo Talamonti talks about his restaurant in Munich, it is clear that he is proud of what he has achieved in life. He has made it, has realized the dream - even if not his own.

It was his father Ezio who had come to Munich from Italy with the family in 1964 to open his own restaurant. He dreamed this dream for the whole family. But Rinaldo did not want to play the supporting role in his father's dream. He moved away from home and from then on earned his money with numerous roles - especially in various sex films of the 70s, including classics of the genre such as "Laß jucken Kumpel". But the real breakthrough as a film actor, which he hopes for to this day, remained elusive. That's why he can't understand why his son Lajos, who works as an actor in independent theater productions, has no film ambitions.

In The Father's Dream, Michael Chauvistré and Miriam Pucitta draw the tense portrait of an Italian family between Germany and Italy over three generations. The story of the Talamontis is also exemplary for countless similar family fates:
Five decades after the beginning of the recruitment of the so-called guest workers, many of them are already firmly rooted in Germany in the second or third generation, even if certainly not all dreams have been fulfilled. And in many families, the fathers believed they knew what a successful future for the family should look like. The future has always been a family business. They wanted only the best for their children, and they wanted it so much that the children often had no choice but to resist it at some point.
Ezio eventually had to give up his dream of owning a restaurant. He went back to Italy with his wife and Rinaldo's siblings. But today, when he visits Buon Gusto and toasts with his son, he feels like the true padrone. The Father's Dream is more than just the story of a rise: it's a true little film about still fighting for your dreams, even when they've long since been filled by others.
