In the middle of the North Atlantic the Faroe Islands are located, home of the only regular ferry between mainland Europe, the Faeroe Islands and Iceland: the M/S Norröna. We accompany Captain Petur av Vollanum, his crew and the passengers on the one-week "Viking cruise", which is booked by many European guests. They experience the often rough waves of the North Atlantic, passing by drilling rigs and the Shetland Islands and the impressive landscapes of the island states of Faroe Islands and Iceland. The film also takes a look behind the scenes of the ferry built in Germany in 2003: clearance in Hirtshals, Denmark, the 30,000-hp engines in the engine room, captain and officers on the bridge, action in the ship's kitchen, an authentic rescue exercise and much more.
