Brief synopsis
They were to bring the most valuable art treasures in Europe to the Dresden court - this was the mission of the Saxon ruler August III in the 18th century. Thus, a gaggle of shrewd art agents brought the most precious diamonds and the most magnificent paintings to the Elbe. The Green Vault and the Old Masters Gallery now showed the whole world that Dresden was the equal of the art metropolises Versailles and Vienna.
