|Company history||Crew United's business idea was born in 1995, based on the personal experience that film and television professionals had previously relied almost exclusively on personal recommendations when looking for a job, as well as on their involvement with the Internet, which was still a young medium at the time. The basic idea was to create an internet platform that enables freelancers to present themselves and their qualifications and thus attract the attention of potential employers. Thus the Freelance-Guide was created, which is still one of the core elements of Crew United today. |
With the merger of Vincent Lutz and Oliver Zenglein in spring 1996, the initial provisional arrangement was turned into a professional internet presence. Although at those early days an own internet connection was still rather rare (almost 4 million Germans with their own connection), without the use of advertising or PR the mark of 2000 registered freelancers was already exceeded in December 2000 and for the first time more than 50.000 page requests per month were recorded.
Simultaneously with the foundation of Crew United GbR in January 2001, a complete relaunch including improved graphics, functionality and numerous other offers went online. In the course of this the industry guide, a kind of yellow pages for companies, was created. With this Crew United said goodbye to the existence as a pure freelancer offer. The foundation stone was laid for a comprehensive platform for all those involved in the professional film and television industry.
In autumn 2001 the 150.000 monthly page requests were exceeded and the 3000th freelancer entry was reached. It became clear: crew united must be put on a commercial footing. A professional, modern and relational database system was developed and implemented which, while remaining simple and clear, otherwise meets all the requirements in terms of function and content for a modern Internet platform for the professional film and television industry. This also implied the extension of the service to actors and actresses.
On July 1, 2003 the new Crew United went online successfully. Since November 1, 2003, the full member entry is subject to a fee. The restricted Part Member entry will remain free of charge.
