Caligari Films was founded in 1986 and is one of the leading independent production companies in Germany. Shareholder and managing director is Gabriele M. Walther. The company introduced the sitcom genre to the German market and produced numerous sitcom series for RTL. HAUSMEISTER KRAUSE for Sat.1 became the most successful German sitcom to date with 88 episodes.
With THE NIMBOLS, Caligari was the first company in Germany to produce a major CGI series and thus entered the international animation business. Following this, Caligari acquired the rights to many well-known brands such as COCONUT THE LITTLE DRAGON, LETTERS FROM FELIX, KNIGHT RUSTY and PRINCESS LILLIFEE and became market leader in the animation segment. Caligari’s animation productions include 10 feature films and more than 350 tv episodes and have won numerous awards.
The award-winning feature film HELL is part of the company’s fiction department. The apocalyptic thriller became the audience favourite at numerous festivals and received six nominations for the German Film Award. The high-end family entertainment series PAN TAU was produced in English and with a predominantly British cast in co-production with ARD.
The factual and non-fiction sector of Caligari includes the entertainment show PRINCESS OF SCIENCE as well as numerous docu-soaps and daytime formats, such as BEAUFORT 8, NICHT ZU STOPPEN and DER HAUSTIERCHECK. Caligari Entertainment also produces prime-time documentaries for ZDF such as TERRA X and FASZINATION UNIVERSUM with Harald Lesch.
In addition to its headquarter in Munich, Caligari Film has subsidiaries in Stuttgart (Traffix Entertainment), Cologne (Caligari Entertainment) and Berlin (Synergy Film).
In 2017, Gabriele M. Walther founded MEDIVA, the first networking event for female decision-makers in the media industry.
