Svenja (Anneke Kim Sarnau) and her 16-year-old daughter Kira (Amira Demirkiran) have travelled the world a lot. Svenja is a hotel manager, at the moment she is putting a hotel in Australia that is getting on in years back into shape. But her biggest challenge is Kira, who has switched to complete refusal and doesn't let Svenja tell her anything anymore. Also at school Kira doesn't avoid any confrontation, which in turn leads to conflicts with Svenja. After another fight Kira decides to run away to Jack (Tjiirdm McGuire). Jack is Aboriginal and Kira's only friend. From him she learns about the so-called Walkabout, an Aboriginal tradition, which is about finding your own special place. Together the two youngsters set off on their personal walkabout. Svenja is beside herself with worry when she notices Kira's disappearance, and starts the chase with Jack's father Kalti (Aaron Pedersen). A journey full of adventure and unexpected experiences begins for all four.
