Cologne, 1962 - Claire, a young woman in her early 20s, comes to Cologne from a small village in Belgium to work. She speaks no German.
Through an ad she meets the fun-loving Mathilda, who is in her early 30s and lives rather unconventionally for the times - something Claire doesn't know from her narrow-minded village, but something she longs for.
Mathilda likes to speak a lot of French- which is why Claire uses her to brush up on her French. They spend a lot of time together and Mathilda shows her Cologne. Mathilda is very interested in fashion, works for a fashion company and likes to dress in a deliberately charming way and to put on make-up - things that were rather foreign to Claire before.
Secretly, Claire wants to be a writer and also struggles with her sexual identity. She has never had a boyfriend and is more attracted to women. Mathilda awakens in her an unprecedented desire, which confuses her.
A film about searching and finding oneself, and about encounters with people who support this path.
