In the most violent region of Italy a brave magistrate fights against the ‘Ndrangheta mafia by taking away young boys from their extremely powerful and violent families. Magistrate Roberto Di Bella has seen a lot in his Juvenile Court, boys serving as lookouts during murders, attending drug deals and taking care of fugitives, or learning how to handle a Kalashnikov assault rifle.
A year ago he started the controversial and unique re-education programme Liberi di Scegliere (Free to Choose) in an attempt to show the boys that a different kind of life is possible.
An observational feature documentary that follows the crusade of a man who lives under protection 24/7. Through him and his team working in the Juvenile Court, we will meet the sons of some of the most dangerous men in Italy.
