The film brings confessions by some of the world’s foremost Janáček specialists – artists and musicologists alike – including the director, David Pountney, and Sir Charles Mackerras, as well as rare archival footage from outstanding international stagings of Janáček operas (among them Felsenstein’s legendary account of The Adventures of the Cunning Little Vixen in Berlin) and of his instrumental works, at the end providing a convincing answer to the question of why Janáček’s work still continues to fascinate the whole music world.
