A young soldier returns from the war to 16th century Madrid under construction. Like hundreds of young men, he is not yet clear about the path he wants to follow. While he struggles with his concerns and ambitions, two women cross his path. One a liberal, successful businesswoman; the other a noblewoman, a dreamer. Along with love comes adventure, and while he learns what it really means to love, he is pursued by justice, imprisoned and threatened by hired assassins until he hides in the port of Lisbon, where the largest naval army the sea has ever seen is being prepared.
