The a cappella ensemble amarcord presents magnificent compositions from the European Renaissance by Dowland, di Lasso, Gabrieli, Gesualdo, Josquin and many others.
Along with Hille Perl at the viola da gamba, the American lutenist Lee Santana and percussionist Michael Metzler, the ensemble met in the Venetia region of northern Italy. In the splendid Villa Godi, the first villa ever built by Renaissance star architect Andrea Palladio, they recorded a great variety of songs by John Dowland, Orlando di Lasso, Carlo Gesualdo di Venosa, Orazio Vecchi, Josquin des Préz, Luca Marenzio, Cipriano de Rore, Baldisserra Donato, Juan del Encina, Giovanni Gabrieli, Alonso de Alba, Heinrich Schütz, Adrian Willaert and Nicolas Gombert. The award-winning ensemble amarcord impresses not only with its extraordinary virtuosity but also its versatility and homogeneity. In combination with the upbeat percussion of Michael Metzler and the delicately refined performances of viol and lute from Hille Perl and Lee Santana, a magical mood emerges, illustrated with lyrical images of the Venetian countryside.
